About Me

Kia Ora

My name is Sharon Salmon, welcome to my web page.
I have been part of the New Zealand Tattoo Industry for the past 22 years, being one of the Female Tattoo Artists of the late 80s early 90s. My first business was in Christchurch, Black Rose Tattoo Emporium. There I became interested in the art of Celtic and became an Award Winning Celtic Artist both here and in Australia.
During the late 90’s I had the privilege of working at Te Toi Mana Maori Art Gallery in the Christchurch Art Centre, with some very talented artists and from there I was able to move towards new and exciting forms of art, using multi mediums, harakeke, clay, ceramics, paint etc.. This broadened my tattooing and experiences in the art world.

From 2000 to 2003 I was the first Legal Art Coordinator for Christchurch City Council. I designed the Proactive Graffiti programme that is now being used all over the world. I learnt how to use a spray can!. The experience yet again was another opportunity that helped inspire the work I am doing now.
I have relocated myself and my family back to Nelson after 22 years of being in Canterbury.

The New Studio is a reflection of myself and all of the artistic experiences that I embrace. My point of difference is that I work with my clients individually to create their own interpretation of their visions. This creates a piece of unique art that is theirs alone, and you won’t find anything the same anywhere else. In order for me to get to visualize your dream then we meet and have a free consultation and I listen to your story, hence we create your own unique art form.
